On Monday I had the pleasure to discuss the world „beyond digital“ with the participants of the Digital Leadership Academy. One of ten hypothesis (raised by a study of Kernkompetenzzentrum Finanz- & Informationsmanagement and Fujitsu) about the corporate agenda of the year 2025 claims that individuals will rate social benefits over personal benefits. The hypothesis was controversly dicussed by the students. On the one hand they agreed that such a world is desirable but on the other hand they didn’t believe that this will become reality.
While the argument is valid, it is the starting point to understand what makes a leader. Leaders take the first step. Leaders take the responsibility when others doubt. Leaders know what they stand for and they act in a way that is consistent with the vision of the world they want to create.
Leadership is not a role but the decisions we take in our daily life. If I want to live in a world where we rate social over personal benefits in the future, I need to rate social over my personal benefits today.
What world do you want to live in?
What are you willing to invest in this world?
It’s not about others. It’s about us. We decide in every moment of our life to which world we contribute!
